Make this year more sentimental by skipping the store-bought decor and snacks and teaching your child the art of DIY this holiday. Get crafty this Easter with these artistic activities from the top Polk County Catholic schools!

Chick Planter
This adorable spring craft will give your houseplants an Easter-themed makeover! To make these chick planters, you’ll need:

  • Small terracotta pots

  • Pastel-colored paints

  • Feathers

  • Scissors

  • Paint brush

  • Glue

  • Card Stock

  • Googly eyes

Start by painting the planters. Once they are dry, glue the feathers on the side and top of the rim. Glue on the googly eyes. To create the beak, cut the cardstock into the shape of a diamond, and fold it in half before gluing it on the front of the pot. Fill the pot with soil and plant your succulents inside! Add eggs or candy for a sweet treat.

Marshmallow Bunny
For the child who loves to make food and has a sweet tooth, these marshmallow bunnies will definitely satisfy! This simple activity calls for just:

  • 5 large marshmallows for each bunny

  • Black and red gumdrops

  • Scraps of white paper

  • Cotton balls

  • Toothpicks

  • 1 piece of fruit roll ups

To make the bunny’s head and body, connect three marshmallows with toothpicks. To make four paws, cut the other two marshmallows into halves. You’ll be using the toothpicks to keep the pieces together. Cut the white paper into two bunny ears and then attach them with half of a toothpick. Using half of a toothpick, attach the red gumdrop for the nose. Cut the black gumdrop in half for two eyes and attach them with half toothpicks. Then, tie the fruit roll up into a ribbon around the bunny’s neck and you’ve got yourself a super sweet bunny!

Cotton Bunny Card
Rather than buying an Easter card, your child can make one! This fluffy cotton card is so easy to make and will have more of a sentimental impact on the recipient. One bunny calls for just three cotton pads that are flat and round, one cotton puff for the bunny tail, cardstock, googly eyes, pink and green scrap paper, glue, pens, and chocolate eggs. Simply start by making the bunny’s body with two of the cotton pads, then cut one in half for the ears. Glue those onto pink cardstock paper, along with the eyes and tails. Draw on whiskers, and use the pink paper for the nose. The green paper will be used for the grass. Finally, eat that chocolate and use the foil as chocolate eggs on your card! A sweet gesture for your family and the person you’ll be sending it to!

With gentle guidance and taking on growth opportunities, your child will be able to pursue his dreams now.
