Celebrate Earth Day by Switching Out Single-Use Products

On Earth Day, we celebrate our planet and look for ways to make the world a better place to live. One small change you can make to reduce your carbon footprint is switching from single-use products to reusable ones. These small changes also save you the money you would otherwise spend replacing products as they run out. Here are a few items you can invest in today to reduce the amount of waste you and your family produce:

Metal Water Bottles

Single-use plastic water bottles are one of the biggest consumer-level threats to the environment. Plastic reusable water bottles come at various levels of quality, and some contain potentially harmful chemicals called BPAs. These water bottles often get thrown away eventually because they break or become worn out. Metal water bottles are stronger and keep drinks cool for longer. Even children have trouble breaking metal water bottles, which makes them a great fit for the whole family.

Silicone Bags

Plastic baggies are life savers when it comes to packing school lunches. They’re versatile and don’t take up much space in a lunchbox. However, they can only be used a few times before they start breaking down. Make the switch to silicone food bags, which are just as flexible and can be washed and reused. Some are even dishwasher and microwave safe, making them much more convenient than the flimsy alternative.

Bento Box Lunch Boxes

Glass lunch boxes with dividers are a smart way to save space in a lunchbox and avoid throwing away worn out or stained plastic containers. These are great for lunches that need to be reheated because they can be washed clean after each use. These are also great storage solutions for cold lunches and snacks for your child. If you’re worried about sending your child to school with glass containers, these boxes can also be made of stainless steel, BPA-free plastic and other materials.

Everyday Kitchen Products

Like most of these items, many of the disposable products that can easily be replaced with reusable alternatives start in the kitchen. Aside from those mentioned above, you can find items like refillable soap containers and natural sponges. You can also replace paper products with cloth napkins and reusable paper towels. Unlike regular paper towels, reusable ones can be washed and reused for up to a week, which can add up to a lot less waste.

At our schools, we teach students about the importance of protecting the planet. Switching from single-use products to reusable ones is a great way to do your part. Our Polk private schools foster an atmosphere of care and an environment of high expectations and effective discipline. We allow students to explore their faith at school and encourage them to do the same at home. To learn more about what makes us different, contact us online.
