National Future Teachers of America Day

Teaching is undoubtedly hard work. Our teachers spend all day educating young minds with patience and compassion, and the work doesn't end when the final bell rings, as they stay late to grade papers, plan lessons, and coach clubs. That's why on November 20, we salute those pursuing a career in the field of education by celebrating National Future Teachers of America Day. Polk County private schools have some ideas on how you can honor future educators on this special day.

Say Thanks
Teaching can sometimes be a thankless job, so take this day to express your gratitude for the future teachers in your life. If you know someone who is working towards becoming a teacher, you can send him a card or even a gift certificate for office supplies to show your appreciation for him. If you don't know any future teachers, you can still give thanks to some up-and-coming educators by writing a thank you letter to the education department at your local college or university. Showing these future educators how important their work is will inspire them to continue making a difference in our community.

Play School
If your child has dreams of becoming a teacher one day, you can celebrate her aspirations on National Future Teachers of America Day by playing school together. Set up a “classroom” at home with a chalk or white board, desks and chairs, and paper and pencils. Let your child be a teacher for a day and give you assignments and homework. You child will no doubt enjoy getting to tell her parent what to do for a change, and you can encourage her to pursue her developing passion for empowering others through education.

Get Involved
National Future Teachers of America Day is sponsored by the Future Teachers of America, an organization for young people who wish to pursue teaching as a career. FTA clubs can be found in high schools all over the country, helping those students explore careers in education and form a community with like-minded peers. On this special day, you can honor these inspiring young people by reaching out to a local FTA chapter and finding out how you can get involved with their work. Whether it's through donations or volunteering, you can lend a hand in preparing future educators for important and rewarding careers.

At Polk County private schools, we foster an atmosphere of care and an environment of high expectations and effective discipline. To learn more about what makes us different, contact the Office of Catholic Schools at the Diocese of Orlando by dialing 407-246-4800.
