Polk County Schools Celebrate Catholic Schools Week

National Catholic Schools Week has been celebrated since 1974 and highlights the opportunities students have with a Catholic education. This year’s theme for National Catholic CSW2017_PolkScheduleSchools Week, which is January 29, 2017 through February 4, 2017, is “Catholic Schools: Communities of Faith, Knowledge, and Service.” Polk County Catholic schools in the Diocese of Orlando celebrate with special Masses, open houses, and student activities involving families, community outreach, and parishioners.Why Celebrate?Catholic schools offer a fantastic educational experience that includes more than academics. The ability to teach traditional school subjects along with Catholic values and a wide array of extracurricular activities creates well-rounded students who learn the importance of an education involving the mind, body, and spirit. Catholic schools have:

  • Better-than-average national test scores
  • Increased high school and college graduation rates. In fact, Catholic schools have a 99% graduation rate.
  • More graduates who earn post-secondary degrees
  • Over two million students in preschool, elementary, and secondary schools.
  • Legislation in 27 states that helps families afford private or faith-based education.

Our Polk County Catholic schools showcase schools during Open House for our four Lakeland schools and our Winter Park school. Parents and those interested in the importance of a Catholic education are welcome to visit our schools.ServiceAn inherent value of Catholic education is service. Polk County Catholic schools demonstrate serious commitment to service in the community throughout the year. To celebrate Catholic Schools Week, our Polk County students will be completing a service project at the Agape Food Bank in Lakeland on January 30th.
