Teach Your Child About Kindness with the Bible

As believers of Christ, we understand that kindness is a fruit of the Spirit. Through His spirit, your child can develop this characteristic by reading the Bible. These Scripture verses teach your child how kindness is modeled by God.

Luke 6:3–5
Luke 6:35 says: “But rather, love your enemies and do good to them, and lend expecting nothing back; then your reward will be great and you will be children of the Most High, for he himself is kind to the ungrateful and the wicked.” The lesson here is to give without accepting anything in return. Your child can lend a hand to a friend and the return will be rich later!

Titus 3:4–7
In Titus chapter three, verses four through seven, the Bible reads: “But when the kindness and generous love of God our savior appeared, not because of any righteous deeds we had done but because of his mercy, he saved us through the bath of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he richly poured out on us through Jesus Christ our savior, so that we might be justified by his grace and become heirs in hope of eternal life.” This verse displays the kindness that God has shown, which inspires your child to foster that trait in himself.

Ephesians 4:32
This line in Ephesians, chapter four, says: “be kind to one another, compassionate, forgiving one another as God has forgiven you in Christ.” Teach your child to be forgiving, just like God is forgiving of us. If he feels hurt by somebody’s actions, this is a good way to share this lesson with him.

Proverbs 21:21
Proverbs 21:21 teaches us that when you show kindness, you will live a fruitful life, when it says, “Whoever pursues justice and kindness will find life and honor.” Your child should know that leading a good life means being kind.

Proverbs 11:17
Another chapter in Proverbs offers insight into being kind. Proverbs 11:17 says, “Kindly people benefit themselves, but the merciless harm themselves.” Explain to your child that those who are cruel do not benefit from their actions.
