Valentine’s Day Crafts for Your Child
Grab the scissors and glue — Valentine’s Day is coming! The holiday may be filled with romance and roses, but your child can have some fun, too. Here are some fun DIY crafts for your child to do. She can give her creations to her classmates, teachers, grandparents, or anyone else she wants to spread joy to!
You Make My Heart Flutter
This handprint creation is from Teaching Mama and only requires googly eyes, construction paper, pipe cleaners, glue, marker, and paint. Your child will start by cutting two large hearts and one small heart out of construction paper. Then, cut a long oval shape for a butterfly’s body. Cut the pipe cleaners into three inches and curl the ends. Now the really fun part: Your child will dip her hand into washable paint and stamp onto the big hearts. Once it’s dry, glue the hearts to the back of the body. With a marker, have your child will write, “You make my heart flutter” on the body. Glue on the eyes, pipe cleaners, then draw on a smile. Not only will it capture the size of your child’s ever-growing hands, but it’ll catch the hearts of anyone she gives it to.
Wrap a Heart in Yarn
This lovely and adorable craft takes just five minutes to make and can be used as holiday decor. All you need is pink and red yarn, a piece of cardboard, scissors, and tape. Start by cutting out a heart shape with the cardboard. Tape the end of the yarn spool to the back. Wrap the yarn around the heart until it’s completely covered. Cut off the yarn, and tie the loose end through another piece of yarn. And you have a heart!
Candy Jar
No holiday is complete without candy! Your child will fill a mason jar with her favorite treats and Valentine’s Day conversation candy hearts. Have her take old Valentine’s cards or napkins and simply cut them into heart shapes. Paste the cutouts onto the jar to make the perfect gift. So sweet!
Love Notes
Your child can lift someone’s spirits with sweet love notes! Fill up a mini mason jar with pink or red note cards that your child wrote sweet messages on. Perfect for a loved one or best friend, the words can read anything from favorite memories, words of encouragement, or simply “I love you.” Fill the jar with enough notes to last all month long!
