Honor Mothers On Their Day

Exodus 20:12 instructs us to honor our father and our mother, and Mother’s Day is a wonderful chance to focus on intentionally honoring the women and mothers in your life. Take a look at these suggestions to show them God’s unconditional love!Forgive With Grace and CompassionWe honor our parents by extending grace and forgiveness toward them. We serve a loving, forgiving savior; in Luke 23:34, Jesus is on the cross and cries out, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” If Jesus is able to forgive the people who put Him on the cross, we must follow His example to give grace freely! No one is perfect, and when your mother, aunt, grandmother, or even sister makes a mistake, remember how much she loves you and how much you love her.Speak Well of HerHold the women in your life in high esteem and speak well of them both publicly and privately. This Mother’s Day, make it a point to tell them just how they’ve impacted you, what you’ve learned from them, and how thankful you are for their love and guidance. You can bring them great joy just by taking time to appreciate them.When you are out in public, be intentional to do this as well. Tell others how well the mothers in your life love you and what you love about them, even on the days where you feel frustrated or disgruntled. It’s important to show your unconditional love for them. Not only is this a great example of how God calls us to honor our mothers, but it’s a perfect opportunity to explain that unconditional love — and its roots — to others in your life.Serve HerIt can be easy to take for granted all of the things the women in your life have done and sacrificed for you. Mother’s Day is an excellent time to show them that you remember everything they have done and how thankful you are for them. Consider what your mother, grandma, or aunt would most appreciate. If you think she would love a special day at the spa, either alone or with you, arrange it, and take her out for her favorite meal afterward. If she has a lot on her plate, rent her favorite movie, or set up her with her favorite book to relax in a hammock outdoors. Cook a few meals, clean the house, do some laundry, or run some errands for her.With these few suggestions, you can help the important women in your life feel valued and appreciated.
